Upon arrival at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel via private vehicle. The rest of the day is reserved for altitude acclimatization. As Leh sits at 3,500 meters, taking it easy is crucial. In the afternoon, you can explore the local market or join us on a local sightseeing tour to Shey Palace, Tiksey Monestary and Shanti Stupa. In the evening you will receive your first tour briefing, and get introduced to your motorcycle followed by a over a delicious welcome dinner.
To ease into riding at high altitude, we embark on a gentle yet scenic day trip to Lamayuru. The route includes stops at Magnetic Hill, the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers, and the ancient Alchi Monastery. Lamayuru, often referred to as the “Moonland” due to its surreal lunar-like landscapes, hosts one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh. This first ride allows novice riders to gain confidence on Ladakhi roads.
Today’s route takes us over the iconic Khardung La, once the highest motorable road in the world. The pass offers thrilling switchbacks and breathtaking views of the Leh valley and beyond. Descending into Nubra Valley, you’ll experience a dramatic change in terrain—from stark mountains to green oasis. The valley is known for its double-humped Bactrian camels, sand dunes, and friendly village hospitality.
We take an adventurous back route via Wari La Pass, a lesser-traveled and peaceful high pass offering solitude and pristine landscapes. Rejoining the main road at Sakti, we ascend Chang La Pass before descending into the stunning Pangong Lake area. This high-altitude saltwater lake stretches 130km across the Indo-China border and changes colors throughout the day, creating a surreal experience.
From Pangong, we trace the remote and scenic border roads south through Chushul and along the Tsaga La. Sparse military outposts and untouched scenery mark this section. Hanle is one of the most isolated villages in Ladakh and home to the Indian Astronomical Observatory. The tranquility and night sky here are second to none.
Today, we ride to the world’s highest motorable pass: Umling La at 5,798 meters (19,200 feet). This is a true bucket–list moment for any motorcycle adventurer. Expect challenging roads, stunning panoramas, and a deep sense of accomplishment. Depending on conditions, we return to Hanle or overnight near Nyoma.
We journey through the lesser-traveled Puga Valley, known for its geothermal hot springs and lunar landscapes. Our destination, Tso Kar, is a tranquil saltwater lake in the Changthang region, rich in birdlife including the rare black-necked crane. This region’s quiet beauty is a stark contrast to the earlier dramatic landscapes.
On our final riding day, we traverse the smooth More Plains and then ascend Tanglang La Pass—another high-altitude marvel. We roll back into Leh by late afternoon with a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie. That evening, we celebrate the end of an unforgettable journey with a special farewell dinner in Leh.
After breakfast, a private transfer takes you to Leh Airport for your onward journey. Bid farewell to Ladakh with a heart full of memories and newfound riding confidence.
Enhance your journey with the optional “India Welcome Package – USD 580,” featuring: airport pickup in Delhi, a 1 night’s stay in Delhi Aerocity (3*-4*), dinner, airport drop the next morning, and a domestic return flight to & from Delhi-Leh-Delhi.

In general, daily temperatures are still warm during the day (+28) but nights can be cold (+2). It’s advisable to carry some warm clothing. You will need to keep yourself very well hydrated at all times, please only drink bottled mineral water, (check to ensure the seal is intact).
The itinerary is subject to climate and road condition and will be amended if necessary to ensure the best and safest experience for the riders.
What to wear…
A detailed packing list will be provided prior to your trip! At the risk of stating the obvious here are a few tips: Shoes or slippers that can be slipped on and off easily are also very useful as they must always be removed at all religious sites, and you may want to swap your riding boots for more comfortable wear at your accommodation. For general day wear, think in layers! Your motorcycle gear, inners, rain gear or liners, warm long underwear or fleece jackets over t-shirts will be your best friend. Additionally, if the weather changes, carry 2 sets of gloves, 1-2 buffs, and a woolen hat. And don’t forget t-shirts and shorts for those sunny days. Please remember to cover yourself properly when visiting the monasteries and avoid talking selfies with the Buddha statue.
Please carry adequate sunscreen and a cooling lotion which could be Aloe Vera based. Wet wipes, hats, sunglasses with a with a high UV protection factor will help you cope with the sun.
Do bring…
Personal medication to cover you for stomach ailments, car sickness, minor cuts and bruises, sprains and rashes/allergies, mosquito bites. Any other medication prescribed by your doctor.
Please carry toilet paper or intimate wipes (lingettes intimes) in your on-bike backpack for when you need to use public toilets.
Comfort & Eating Out…
Please remember you could give special instructions asking for less spicy food. If you are allergic to any specific foods, please let us know well in advance so we can tell you what kind of foods to avoid.
Please be careful to have food in small quantities, always cooked fresh and served hot as your stomachs may not be used to the spices and the oil in which they are made. When ordering cool drinks, please insist that no ice is used in the glass. Bottles of water and drinks must have unbroken seals when purchased. We recommend raffling of your bottles.
To Leh: you can fly directly to Leh Airport (Code: IXL) via Delhi or Mumbai. Airlines like Air India, Indigo and Spice Jet offer good connections. Luggage is often limited to 15kg, but you can purchase extra kgs if you need to. You will need to acclimatise after arrival, and hence the first 1-2 days will be easy going to ensure you get used to the high altitude and to avoid altitude sickness (AMS).
Riding in the Himalayas and on some of the highest roads of the world is definitely a bucket list experience and for some, a once-in-a-lifetime trip!
At first, the high altitude makes everything feel more difficult. Whether it is walking, tying your shoe laces or simply climbing a few steps. You will feel the difference in altitude instantly, and you will feel tired more easily. Some may experience fatigue and a slight headache.
That’s why the first 1-2 days of your tour will be easy going to ensure you get used to the high altitude and to avoid altitude sickness (AMS). Upon arrival in Leh, spend the day relaxed with only a few easy walks if at all. The first day of riding will be an easy ride on tar to ensure you become comfortable riding at high altitude, and to get used to Indian traffic.
If you take it easy, have a good sleep and monitor your water and foot intake (a bit less food than you have usually), we can try to avoid altitude sickness. But, it is a reality and there is always a possibility especially when crossing high passes or or sleeping at high altitude (no worries – we always ride high, but sleep low!)
But, should you feel light headed or experience a headache, please notify your tour leader instantly. We always have a local medic support on our tour to assist with extra oxygen and medication if necessary.
To prevent altitude sickness as much as possible, you can consider taking Diamox (Altitude sickness medication) 1-2 days prior to your arrival in Leh. This will help reduce the symptoms.

Cell phone connectivity is not always the best when on the road between destinations and varies from operator to operator. You may have WIFI and Network connectivity in LEH, ALCHI and PANGONG. During the other days, you won’t have cellphone reception or WIFI. Please inform your close-ones, family and/or work accordingly, and try to arrange everything important before/after the tour. We have a satellite phone that can be reached.
Please make sure to carry sufficient cash (INR) with you for our personal expenses and to settle extra food or hotel bills. Card payments are usually not possible in Ladakh and only few establishments in Leh accept it.
You can withdraw INR cash at the Delhi Airport upon your arrival in India. We recommend an amount of INR 500- 800 per day for snacks, tea/coffee and smaller expenses on the road.
Leh does have a few ATMs, but they don’t always work with international cards. Thus, Delhi Airport is a more reliable option.
