Timeline

Day 0: Before the tour

Book your international flight to India, and your domestic flight to Bagdogra (IXB) to arrive in the morning before 11am for your Airport pickup.

Day 1: Arrival in Bagdogra – Welcome to Gangtok (5 hour drive)

Your Sikkim adventure begins here. We’ll greet you at Bagdogra Airport and whisk you away in a comfortable taxi transfer to the charming city of Gangtok (1635m altitude), the gateway to the hill stations of North Bengal and Sikkim. Along the way, we’ll make a pitstop for refreshments. Upon arrival, check into your cozy hotel and join us for a warm meet and greet, followed by a short tour briefing.

Included meals: Roadside Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: Gangtok to Tsongmo Lake

We ride from Gangtok to Tsongmo Lake (3753m altitude) and back, ascending into the high-altitude terrain where the air is significantly colder. The roads wind sharply as we climb to Tsongmo Lake, also known as Changu Lake, a sacred glacial lake famous for its stunning beauty and changing colors. We experience challenging riding conditions at higher elevations due to thinner air and potentially icy patches, testing our skills. We return to Gangtok, enjoying slightly warmer temperatures at a lower elevation.

Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Gangtok to Lachung

We ride from Gangtok to Lachung, passing through Mangan, experiencing a diverse range of landscapes. The journey involves navigating winding mountain roads and steep climbs, demanding careful throttle control and skillful maneuvering. We pass through Mangan, the district headquarters, before continuing our ascent to Lachung (2658m altitude), a picturesque village known for its stunning landscapes and as a base for exploring Yumthang Valley. We encounter cooler mountain air as we climb towards our destination.

Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Lachung – Yumthang – Lachung

We ride from Lachung to Yumthang Valley (3763m altitude) and back, experiencing the breathtaking beauty of the “Valley of Flowers.” The roads to Yumthang are challenging, with steep inclines and potentially rough surfaces, requiring focused riding. Yumthang Valley, at a high elevation, presents colder conditions, and we witness the vibrant alpine flora for which it is famous. We descend back to Lachung, enjoying the slightly milder temperatures and reflecting on the stunning natural beauty of the high-altitude valley.

Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5: Lachung to Dzongu

We ride from Lachung to Dzongu, descending from the higher elevations into a region known for its unique Lepcha culture and biodiversity. The roads are winding and potentially rough, requiring careful navigation and a steady hand. We experience a significant change in climate as we descend, feeling warmer temperatures and more humid air. Dzongu offers a chance to immerse ourselves in the local traditions and experience a different side of Sikkim.

Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6: Dzongu to Ravangla

We ride from Dzongu to Ravangla (2067m altitude), navigating through diverse landscapes and varied road conditions. We encounter winding roads that climb gradually, offering panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Ravangla, situated at a higher elevation, offers cooler temperatures and is known for its stunning views of the Kanchenjunga range and its serene Buddha Park. We settle in, anticipating further exploration of the southern Sikkim region.

Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7: Ravangla – Pelling – Yuksom

We ride from Ravangla to Yuksom, passing through Pelling, another scenic town known for its monasteries and breathtaking views. The route involves navigating winding roads, experiencing both ascents and descents, and enjoying panoramic vistas. We pass through Pelling, offering an opportunity to visit Pemayangtse Monastery and enjoy the views of the surrounding mountains. We continue to Yuksom, a historically significant town known as the first capital of Sikkim and the gateway to the Khangchendzonga National Park, with slightly warmer temperatures.

Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 8: Yuksom to Gangtok

We ride from Yuksom back to Gangtok, retracing some of our steps while experiencing new perspectives on the landscape. The roads wind through valleys and climb mountain slopes, providing a mix of riding challenges and scenic beauty. We enjoy warmer valley temperatures at lower elevations. We return to Gangtok, reflecting on the incredible journey and the diverse experiences we have encountered, before we celebrate our last evening with a farewell dinner and music.

Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 9: Farewell Gangtok – Airport Drop

As our Sikkim ride winds down, we make our way from the cool mountain air of Gangtok into the warmer valleys of Bagdogra. An airport transfer wraps things up, and it’s time to say our goodbyes—tired, happy, and full of stories from an unforgettable ride. The bikes may stop here, but the memories of this Sikkim adventure will ride on long after.

Airport Drop: In a Comfort Car/Van

Included meals: Breakfast, roadside snacks

This tour is an adventure tour. It offers a balance of tar roads and gravel/off-road and is designed to gradually challenge you and increase your skills.

Hence, any prior experience on gravel/off-road is an advantage.

However, should you have no off-road experience you can still participate but you should expect it to be a challenging ride.

We recommend at least minimum of 2-5 years of motorcycle riding experience.

The tour starts in Gangtok, Sikkim (India). The closest domestic airport is Bagdogra Airport (IXB).

If you arrive internationally, you can fly to Delhi or Mumbai and take a domestic connecting flight to Bagdogra.

Most flights from South Africa arrive in Delhi in the morning, which makes it easy to take a connecting flight in the afternoon on the same day.

9 Day Tour specifics: We will meet you at the airport with your comfortable Airport transfer which will take you to Gangtok (the starting point of the tour) in about 5 hours driving. You can relax and slep in the car, and start the night early to be well rested for the next day’s ride.

11 Day Tour Specifics: The tour starts in Siliguri on day 1. We advise to arrive in Bagdogra one day earlier and to book a local hotel to relax and unwind after your long journey. This will ensure that you will be well rested for your first riding day to Darjeeling.

Our Extended Tour Package includes domestic flights and a hotel stay for your easy convenience. And we can also assit with hotel recommendations should you wish to arrange your own travels.

  • Check-in: 15kg
  • Carry-on: 7.5kg

Depending on the airline, you may be able to buy excess luggage or kg. Please refer to the airline carrier’s website.

We recommend using soft-luggage for your international flight, and to re-shuffle your luggage for your domestic flight into carry-on and check-in.

Prior to the tour, a refundable safety deposit of USD 500 will be required. This covers minor damages that go beyond regular wear and tear.

  • For riding in India be ready for Left Side Traffic
  • Always use the Horn before turn or passing
  • Be careful when passing of trucks, wait for them to signal to you with a wave before passing
  • Traffic in India can be challenging, as drivers do not obey traffic rules. They may drive on your side of the road, into opposing traffic, take a sudden u-turn or stop out of nowhere. Be always alert while riding and expect everyone else to make sudden movements.
  • Cars, Trucks and motorcycles might be riding on your side of the road, and surprise you around corners. Take it slow and ride carefully
  • Gravel and sand on roads – some tar roads can be covered with small gravel and sand that is not always visible to the eye, but you can slip easily. Ride slowly around corners!
  • In India there are many Cows which are crossing or sleeping on the roads, watch them! Cows have right ofway!
